Mission Papers!!

My mission papers were officially submitted to Salt Lake today! After pulling me out of Relief Society, I was interviewed by the stake, right there and then. Everything went well, and they said I could get my call as early as next week. When that happens, I will invite family over to see me open it. In the mean time, people started guessing where I was going today, and I remembered that that happens haha. Dad mentioned Northeast United States, and I had another friend guess San Diego California, or England or Russia (they said somewhere cold in Europe).

I put a poll on the side of my blog that are general answers, but if you guess something more specific, then comment here! Meanwhile, I will be getting my stinking cavities filled tomorrow, and have a numb mouth while packing up my apartment to come back to Texas this week!

Time to Blossom

This last week, I got to road trip to Arizona with some friends. I was visiting Becky and I would be a paid counselor at a Young Women's Conference, called Time to Blossom. It was a mix between Time Out for Women and an all girls EFY. I was in charge of 8 11-13 year olds from Tuesday to Friday, sitting through presentations, concerts, comedy shows, crafts, service project, fashion shows, catwalks, devotionals, and etiquette lessons. I also was able to visit Becky on the surrounding weekends, where we visited the Mesa Temple, did some Memorial Day shopping, ate awesome food, and saw The Avengers together. I was able to drive most of the way both there and back to Utah, so all around it was a week full of experiences.

Here is my girls and I making tissue flowers.
Dressed up formal for catwalk. I got to pretend to be a host for the night, and "announce" all my girls with the attributed their parents sent us. Such as "Mary is kind, friendly, smart, and courageous!"
The Pinterest-y stage set up was adorable.
Doing the fun fashion walk with one of my girls. She really came out during the week, this activity was a great confidence booster, and it was so great to have the experience to learn how to model walk and pose and have fun on a runway!
Gwen, Loie, and I rode in the car together, and were three counselors together. What a fun girls trip!
 Model poses.
ALEX BOYE!! This was his fireside which was incredible on the power of music.
 New shirts.
 ALEX BOYE!!!

All the BYU counselors with Lois, a fantastic lady that was one of the ones in charge, and she gave an inspiring devotional. Also with Rachel on the far right, who helped out the counselors all week. We were so lucky to work with many fantastic ladies who are responsible for this vision. Along with Ardeth Kapp, former General YW Pres, who helped write the YW Theme!

Gorgeous Becky

Happy truck on the road trip home :)

I also have video that won't upload here, but I have a live performance of Church Ball Anthem I thought Pete would enjoy. I don't think the girls knew what was happening or what he was saying, so it was not his most popular performance, but I liked it cause I have seen the video. He also had an awesome moving performance of Make Them Hear You from Ragtime that really connected with the girls. Just have me show you when I get home this week if you want.

Mission Application

Hey! I'm 21! Which means, I should document it right? I had some friends help me with a photoshoot for my birthday. Haha, but seriously, here are the pictures I think I will choose from to put in for my mission papers (which are almost done! just my med exams this week). Here are the guidelines:
  • You must be dressed and groomed according to missionary standards. Discuss these standards with your bishop before you have the photograph taken.
  • The photo shows your head and shoulders with your face well lit (no full-body shots).
  • The photo is in color.
  • The photo has a plain background.
I would like to know your opinion, which one looks like "Sister Martin"??! This is what the apostles will see and have to look into my soul and know where I will go!!

I think I will use this first one, I look more confident, but comment and let me know which you like best.

Then, just for fun, here are some goofy outtakes...
This was supposed to be my Hill Cumorah picture...

Lately

At the end of winter term, here are some fun things I did:
  • Rode a mechanical bull for the first time ever!

  • Went on a date with a preemie. And got to dress up as Katniss. Again. At least this time, I had a Peeta and some bread to go with it! Here is the picture I promised in my earlier post.

  • Went on a date to BYU Ballroom Dance Show, which was amazing, because one of the numbers was a collaboration with the Electrical Engineering Department which created this awesomeness:

At the beginning of Spring Term, I have had more free time to try new things! Like this:

  • Bought an aerobics pass to go to Zumba, spinning, Yoga, and various cardio workouts.
  • Bought a (cheap) light blue tiny soprano ukulele and am slowly learning how to play from a book plus talented friends.
  • Got feathers in my hair for some summer fun. One is hot pink and the other is a light turqoise.
  • Went on a date with black friend of mine (also a preemie haha). We went to see The Vow, which I actually wouldn't recommend...
  • Had my inexperienced roommate use me as a guinea pig and she cut my hair. It turned out well though!
  • Got asked to be a blogger for a future non profit organization called Core Beauty, where I will write for teenage girls about loving life and loving others. More to come soon about that.
  • Lots of ward volleyball and ultimate frisbee.
  • Reading various library books for fun, including The Maze Runner- I really like it so far!
  • Experimenting how to make various muffins and pancakes with whole wheat flour, applesauce, bananas, and various fruits.
  • And scheduling my first meeting with Bishop to start my mission papers!

Color Me Rad Yo!

On Saturday it was fun reconnecting with Kami to run a 5K race called Color Me Rad. It was located at UVU campus and it was put on by the same people who did the Dirty Dash, so it was close, and I knew they would do a good job of making it fun. Turns out it was!

This was our last minute attempt to match...with argyle socks, matching shorts, and pigtails :)
This was me during the first part of the race, with only a little orange splotched on me. Also, it was an attempt to take a picture through a ziplock bag...which we didn't really try again cause the quality was so bad.
Not only was there colored powder thrown at you, but also bright colored liquid paint was sprayed on you as well. This was when the red got us, and it looked like we were bleeding haha.
In the middle of the race!
When the race was all over, we went crazy with a photo shoot, but I won't post everything.
Kami actually forgot to give me my blue powder to throw during the race so we just threw it on each other in the parking lot before we left and took more pictures of course.
Sorry if this grosses you out, but our (especially my) white legs looked even whiter we were so painted with color!
A favorite from the day. I really liked the cool glasses that came in the race packet.

Dance party in the parking lot afterwards with out new shirts.
My hairline was literally a rainbow.
This is what happened to my arms/inside of my elbows.
After the race, we went to the mall to enjoy some Chick-fil-a and look weird in public. Including Bath and Body Works.

Hunger Games Mania

MIDNIGHT PREMIERE OF THE HUNGER GAMES! We decided to go all out, and streaked our hair to be like Capitol citizens, but then we also wore mockingjay shirts that my roommate made. We then sat in the Provo Towne Centre theater for a couple of hours in anticipation!

My roommates and our movie tickets!

Some boys from the ward that we helped dress up in Capitol attire (notice Seneca Crane's beard-that was actually a popular trend we saw that night).
Finally in the theater after all those months of waiting!

Between the FHE video we made and this premiere, I have actually had some people in my ward call me Katniss!

Around all this hype, another ward date activity was being planned. They did a "compatibility" test (it asked what your favorite Disney movie was, favorite color, etc.) and matched us up. Then the boys were told to ask us out when they got our name. We are supposed to dress up as a famous couple. Soooo this is what I got on my doorstep one night...

Underneath the bread, there was a paper with tape over it (I guess to protect it from grease) and it said "to find out who Peeta is and who to return the pan to, turn over) and it said-
Now, this is a preemie in my ward who is shorter and obviously younger than me in my ward. I actually used him for my Intro to Youth Leadership class last semester because I had to interview an adolescent, and I knew his older brother Austin. I asked Austin if I could borrow his little brother who was 18 and fit in the right age category. I felt bad calling him adolescent but it was pretty funny, because his brother and other roommates proceeded to call him Adamlescent, and so now that's what my apartment has always called him as well. He and I have actually become good friends through Institute and Mission Prep, and he actually helped me with the idea for The Dating Games movie because we talk Hunger Games a lot. Here was my reply to his bread-

I haven't been that creative with an asking for a date since freshman year, so it was fun to keep up with his creativity and obvious well thought out plan. Our preemies are so precious in our ward, this should be a fun date on Friday. I will have to post pictures of us as Katniss and Peeta next.
