- I have a ten week online-marketing internship with LeadGenix, where I am learning a lot of useful skills on how to get yourself known on the internet and basically I do a bunch of SEO (search engine optimization). This should look really good for when I apply to the advertising program(approximately next winter semester!)
- I got to touch bears. Yes I hiked a slushy, cold mountain with no trail (and therefore, extremely dangerous and thrilling and probably one of the hardest physical things I have ever done). However, it was totally worth it as soon as I saw the brown fur on that magnificent creature. Bears are really cool actually. While humans put on bed rest for a long time lose bone mass, bears can hibernate for months and not lose any. I got to see a mom and 2 yearlings (who were growing their canines that my teacher showed me-yikes! good thing they were tranquilized). It was a full day of driving and hiking which was really fun. This was just what I needed to help me appreciate the beauties in Utah, because I have been missing my warm, flat Texas lately.
- I have friends who all just got mission calls: one to mexico city, mexico spanish speaking; one to new york city, new york korean speaking; and one to seattle washington english speaking-which is actually the stake of one of my roommates! So I got to see some letter openings and feel the excitement with these guys. By the end of the semester, there will be about 50 missionaries from my ward alone.
- I went to a preference dance. This year they offered 4 different dances, all literature themed. There was Harry Potter, Jane Austen, Great Gatsby, and Dr.Suess. They all sounded so fun, buy they all cost a lot of money. Luckily I decided to go to a random meeting for BYUSA and volunteered to help advertise for these dances, therefore securing myself a free ticket. So one day during the switching of classes, I had to chase Cosmo (who was all snazzily dressed in a suit) with a poster (that said "be my cat in the hat") and run with a group of screaming girls for about 5 minutes. Bam, free ticket to Harry Potter. However, being awesome like I am, still took a date. My roommate Loie took a guy from our FHE group who had been feeling down lately and we thought this would cheer him up if she asked him to this. We decided we needed to follow tradition of BYU Preference and ask as cornily as possible. Logan (Loie's date) got a series of 3 notes and treats with harry potterish poems ( such as "be my date, have a cauldron cake"-I helped Loie make these all up) and we ding-dong ditched them all. We told him to respond my owl post (aka his roommates) or some other potterish way, and he certainly did! He sent back his roommate dressed in brown sheets and a beak with a note rolled up with a poem in response. I asked our good friend Ethan, who is also in our FHE group. He really wanted to go and no one was going to ask him and I thought it would be funny if he had no idea it was me. I made up a scavenger hunt with clues that led him completely clueless around to random places(almost pointless really). At the end, I met him up but told him the girl told me to blindfold him and so I did. He was so excited and had no idea I was just leading him around for fun while my roommates recorded the whole thing. Then I told him to take it off and the girl was behind him, and it was just me! We thought it would be funny even if he was disappointed, but he was so excited. He was so excited he kept all of his clues, wanted to call his mom and he told me that was the most legit way he had ever been asked out. I know, I'm awesome. Lindsey was amazing as she helped me out all week with shopping and getting costume things and she helped make it really worth it- thanks Linds and her friend Stacy!
This was Logan- the closest to Tom Riddle you get!
Hermione and Ron- who is literally Loie's dream man...
