Well the games have come and gone for the 2008 Olympic games. Now I feel this strange emptiness inside. Its like Harry Potter just ended. All the excitement of staying up late to watch stars like Phelps and Luikin perform is gone. Even watcing the weird sports was cool. The Olympics were the end of my summer. I watched them in the morning, afternoon, and night somedays. Others I wold just watch clips of what I could. But now our country's athletes leave China and return to training hardcore for 2012. Thats four years away! Too long.
It almost felt like, for a brief moment, especially this year, that the world just came together and felt peace because of the common love for sports. Ahh, the Olympics...every athletes dream. Who wouldnt want the chance to show the world you can do amazing things, and yet are still human like the rest of us? Who wouldnt want the chance to carry your country's flag , no matter how big or small, with the rest of the world? It's inspiring to know what we can do with our bodies and a little determination. Its awesome to live in America where we rock, and totally have some awesome athletes. But it's also cool to hear stories of countries like Somalia, who sent only two, very skinny, very poor, athletes. Even though they both finished last in their events, they got to see buildings they thought were made of magic and their country stopped worrying about their civil wars for that one night and scrambled together to find a broadcast of the race to see their runners, whom they had treated poorly before then. I mean, what an experience for those people! That's the beauty of the games. Magic happens. And even if you just watch at home you get to see history being made (can anyone say 8 golds for one person?) and live the experience of witnessing it. I cannot wait for the London games.

TachacardyWhat?
So i went in to get my annual physical yesterday. I had to get a shot and i grew a half inch surprisingly! But i also found out something else. In this past year, twice i have tried to give blood. Both times i was rejected because my pulse was too high. The second time they told me i might have tacheacardia and that i needed to see a doctor before i try to give blood again. So we took the oppurtunity of the physical to talk to my doctor. We were able to get right up to the cardio clinic place there right away. I felt a little akward in the waiting room cause there was only old people. Great, heart attack worries at age 17. Jk. But i had to get a bunch of sticky things on my chest and stomach and they took an EKG. Then she said wait here while she went to go get the doctor. Wow, not good when they say that apparently. I panicked and asked dad the worst and best case scenario. He told me but i bet you can guess so i wont tell you. Luckily she came back and said we could go because everything was normal. I am just a very anxious, stressed person. Especially at things like the doctors office and giving blood. And some people have higher pulses. Mine just happens to be in the hundreds. Dad says i have to practice working my mind to tell my heart to relax and go to my "happy place" and check my pulse at home everyday. So i do have tacheacardia(fast/racing heart), but its nothing to worry too much about. I just have to stop being so dang anxious all the time.

Why Don't the Good Ones Live Here?

This is more for the girls...
So yesterday i went with a few friends to the Katy stake dance. There were about 4 other stakes there and it was crazy! I had been in the mood to go clubbin...haha jk. But seriously it was fun. And while there i saw a really cute guy. He had caught my attention and i thought that i would really like to dance with him, but thought "no the cute ones never ask me to dance" and plus i would probably be too shy to ask him. However, whenever one of the few slow dances came on, me and a friend were kinda standing there awkwardly cause everyone around had got asked. Then i feel a tap on my shoulder and -gasp!- it was him! he actually asked me to dance with him!! So OF COURSE i said yes and we started dancing right away. I learned that his name was-get ready for this- Steel. Im not sure if thats how you spell it, but...and of course when he asked my name and i said Laurel, he of course asked if i was a laurel. haha, havent heard that one. who would have thought laurel the laurel? seriously its old, but i didnt mind that he joked about it. i almost asked if he had ever seen Balto. anyways.. i found out that he plays soccer, lacrosse, and basketball. and he is leaving for byu in a few days to start school. he gave me a high five when i said i wanted to go there too. :) but sadly, this means that i will probably never see him again. just my luck... i really wanted to talk to him all night and dance with him some more, but it was a huge dance and we got seperated after that one time of dancing and sadly i didnt get to even se if he had a facebook....or a phone number...jk. that would have been weird. but just to let you know i happened to all the sudden have a way better time at the dance and decided that he made it worth it to go and hour and a half to an strange dance. Even though i will probably never see him again. Unless it is meant to be ;)...

Now What?
I have helped make Danbury history. Two out of a bunch that took the AP english language and composition test got a score of 3(out of 5). I was one of the two! Nobosy else got higher. Two people is the most Danbury has seen in a while. Yay! So this means I get to skip freshman enlglish for college because it is acceptable for BYU. However I still need english for my senior year of high school. I am supposed to get to do world literature, or eng 2332, at alvin community college. But don't you just hate how you can go from counselor to counselor and all they tell you is to talk to somebody else? Well because of that, and because I am special with my score, I am still not signed up for school!!! And its a week away!!! I am stressed and upset that it can't just be "okay you're all signed up for that class". No. I am probably looking at an online english this year because it is so inconvinient to take it apparently. And I still need to talk to the high school counselor (again, this will be at least the 3rd or 4th time this summer), the acc counselor(for the 2nd time),BYU(for the 2nd time) and the head of the english department at acc. And we have to make sure that we don't end up paying at least $180 to get the score transcipted.

Bite Me!
While I very impatiently wait for the clock to strike 12:01 a.m tonight, I will post a blog about my new found "Harry".
Well I can NOT wait for the fourth and final book tonight, "Breaking Dawn" in the Twilight series.Sadly I can't go to a midnight awesome release party like I did with Harry Potter, but as long as I get the book in my clutches as soon as possible, Walmart will have to do. I have read almost every article and visited numerous fansites about the author(who by the way is mormon) and the books. I am also super excited for the movie! Robert Pattinson( aka Cedric Diggory) is awesomely hot and you can ask Becky, I took a picture of him while he was on the tv once.Haha. it was a joke, but you get my point...
