"Never look at the doors closing behind you, or you'll miss the ones opening ahead."- Cyril Magnin
So I'm sure most of you have heard, I didn't make it into the advertising program here at BYU. I would love to list excuses for why, but really I didn't give it my best effort. I last minute took the entrance test and made my video, threw together an application with some essay questions that probably were a little cheesy and not as creative as I would have liked them to be. If I didn't give it my best and couldn't take the pressure to be so creative for even just the application in such a competitive major, it would just hurt me more down the road anyways. Plus the Ad Lab just won a Bronze Pencil Award (basically awesome for anyone, let alone students, to get that), making it almost the best program in the nation right now, and how do you say...more picky of the ones who make it in? You have to really really stand out. At BYU, that's hard enough. So I am taking this really well. It felt kind of expected and just ok when I read the letter. It was harsh and hard none the less, but there is worse in life. Now I don't think I will reapply. I would not get in until next winter, and who's to say I would make it then? I would be really screwed if I didn't at the end of my junior year. So I have decided, that while I like to be creative, I should channel that somewhere else. That's why this next week is dedicated to changing majors! I guess you could say I am an official college student now. I always said I wanted to be the one who makes it and sticks with my original intentions. However, I am feeling even better with everyday I am exploring.............teaching.
Yes, I think I want to teach history/geography to middle/high school students. I don't want elementary level after the daycare cause that is like babysitting too much. Cute, but I want to teach at a level where they understand and appreciate fun projects or creative lessons and really apply them to their life. It was a great time of finding myself at that age, and I want kids to get a good experience somewhere as well at that age in school. I guess being a counselor for EFY this summer will help confirm if I want to do this. However, I have been told many times in this semester alone from friends that I am a naturally great teacher. Why history? Well, I am already on my way with some of the classes already done. I like history. I don't have to take math or chemistry. I might get a minor in teaching geography cause I would only have to take a few more credits for that as well. Who knows, maybe I could help sponsor the cheerleaders or some committee of communications as well? I am attending a few orientations for a few different things next week, explore and declare what I want to do for sure (for now), and keep yall posted!
Stay tuned not only for that, but also for jobs, new apartments, and other updates!
Lots of doors I see opening, and lots of squirrel talk lately!

I was so sad to hear about you not making the program, but I'm glad you already have a new plan and are moving forward! We know you will be successful no matter where you end up :)
