There is this adorable kid named Layden who has a huge head, cute button face, and a smile that makes you giggle( think waffle dawg mischeivious grins...all the time). He is one of the few kids in my group that is not potty trained. So when he got his diaper changed today, apparently his pants got messy too. Usually the parents leave some extra clothes at the daycare, but not today, not Layden. Well he comes back to my classroom in a shirt, diaper, and tennis shoes. It is time to go outside and the kids are all lining up. Except Layden. He was upset when he came back from the diaper change, but now he freaked out and started crying!! He cried "Don't wanna go owtside!! Want pants!!" I tried to comfort him and tell him it was ok, and even volunteered to hold him. But nothing would take away his shame of no pants.He kept crying "Pants!...No owtside!! Pants!!" It was so sad!! Then I finally picked him up anyways and took him outside and he would not let me put him down. This way, I was sort of hiding his no-pants state a little better and I stood in the corner of the playground as to not draw attention to his embarrassment. He truly did not like having no pants. After a while, I was able to put him down and he just had to hold my hand. Then i tried to be distracted and busy so he would just go off and play, which eventually he did, by limiting himself to his older brother over on the slide. :)
Also, on the other side of he fence, on the older kids playground, we had more undoing of pants. Apparently this girl Sam told this boy Alex to pee on the fence. So he did. On the fence between someone's house and the daycare. You could see the wet marks. The person that was in charge of them of course punished him and talked to him, and mentioned that he especially did not need to do that in front of the girls. Lets just say his parents were going to get spoken too later.
Two different cases of shame and no shame.
